Kaashif Ghanie (Kaas) is a second-generation mixed Guyanese Canadian Muslim ceramic artist based in Kjipuktuk/Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born in London, Ontario, on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, he graduated from NSCAD University in 2016 with a BFA in Ceramics and a minor in Art History. Following graduation, he completed the Centre for Craft AIR Residency (2017–2018), the CEED Business Program (2019), and the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery’s TD Residency for Black, Indigenous, and Underrepresented Peoples and Communities (2024). In 2024, he received the Arts Nova Scotia Emerging Artist Award.

Ghanie is co-owner of KG Ceramics with partner Kate Grey and is one of two ceramic artists managing the ceramics studio at Wonder’neath Art Society in Halifax. His practice combines functional pottery, large-scale wheel-thrown vessels, installation, and sound to explore themes of family, cultural identity, Islamophobia, migration, and belonging. Drawing inspiration from Islamic decorative arts and family prayer rugs, he creates immersive installations that invite dialogue around contemporary Muslim identity. Through clay, Ghanie transforms everyday objects into spaces for reflection, cultural exchange, and community connection.
