Kelly Markovich is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of art, science, technology, and nature. Her art practice investigates relationships between networks, memory, and the shared collective experience. Combining narratives with objects as a catalyst for evoking emotive responses, Kelly engages through issues of permanence and impermanence, and presence and absence, while drawing reference from biology, anthropology, and neuroscience.

At the forefront of her work lies the complexities of interconnectedness – the deeply interwoven systems of humans and nature. Markovich uses various media, materials, and technologies to uncover links between people’s interplay with objects and the environment while highlighting networks, revealing relationships, and framing the world in terms of human impact.

Kelly holds a BFA from the University of Windsor and an MFA from NSCAD University. In the spring of 2019, Markovich participated in Ayatana Artists’ Research Program, a residency designed to support research by conceptual artists interested in sound. This experience has shifted her focus and she is now pursuing deeper investigation within the medium of sound.

In autumn 2021, Kelly will continue this research while taking part in the Arctic Circle Expedition in Norway. During this time scientists, researchers, and international artists of all disciplines will collectively explore the high-Arctic Svalbard Archipelago and the Arctic Ocean, and she is thrilled to be among the group selected for this opportunity–made possible with the support of Arts Nova Scotia.
