Laura Hambleton (Skunks N' Roses)
Laura Hambleton is a Nova Scotian artist, hide-tanner, and leatherworker working under the studio name Skunks n' Roses, a whimsical and nature-loving micro-tannery specializing in leatherwork and animal and plant fibres.
Her contemporary leatherwork combines commercially tanned leather with her own foraged and naturally hand-tanned materials, with skins, hides, and the materials she tans them with gleaned from the local community and environment. Working in small thematic collections, Laura's designs delve into the interwoven relationships between local habitats, communities, and wildlife. Influenced by Maritime folk art and nostalgia, she takes a playful approach to adorning practical objects with all things soft and tactile, creating one-of-a-kind pieces that invite curiosity, storytelling, and connection.
Laura is a juried member of Craft Nova Scotia.
