The Rainbow Refugee Association of Nova Scotia (RRANS) is a grassroots, registered non-profit society, established in 2011, to advocate, support, and privately sponsor LGBTQI+ refugees seeking to resettle in Nova Scotia.
Since 2013, RRANS has privately sponsored 41 individuals and has supported many more government assisted refugees from around the world. We are continuously fundraising to sponsor and resettle more refugees. We also work closely with community partners in Nova Scotia, and across Canada, to ensure support for LGBTQI+ newcomers.
The RRANS Pottery Program is in it’s second year. It welcomes LGBTQI+ newcomers to partake in a year long program that teaches pottery, welcomes guest artists and builds community among the participants. It is hosted by clay artist Andrea Puszkar who has been making and teaching ceramics for 20+ years.
The Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 is Canada’s sixth national museum. Our mission is to share the ongoing story of immigration to Canada—past to present and coast to coast to coast. The Museum is located in the Pier 21 national historic site at the Halifax seaport where nearly one million immigrants landed in Canada from 1928 to 1971.
