Trevor Van den Eijnden
Trevor Van den Eijnden is a visual artist, designer, and educator born in Pictou, Nova Scotia (Piktuk, Mi’kma’ki), and currently based in Vancouver, British Columbia (K’emk’emeláy, S’ólh Téméxw). He holds degrees from Dalhousie University (BA), NSCAD University (BFA), and Emily Carr University of Art + Design (MFA).
Working across multiple media including photography, painting, sculpture, installation, and text, Van den Eijnden explores nature, time, memory, and grief. His work often brings personal experience into conversation with larger concerns, often the climate crisis and the changing relationship between people and the natural world. He often uses reflective and dichroic materials, abstracted natural forms, and poetic language to create works that shift with light, movement, and perspective. In his work, the Sublime and beauty in general become a way of drawing viewers toward more difficult questions about loss, change, and impermanence.
Van den Eijnden is also a post-secondary professor focused on concept development, art direction, and interdisciplinary creative practice. He currently serves as President of CARFAC BC, advocating for artists across British Columbia, and maintains an active studio practice in Vancouver.
