2019 Curator: TORI FLEMING - Nocturne Halifax

Nocturne's search for our 2019 curator is over! We are excited to announce artist and arts administrator TORI FLEMING has been selected as this year's curator!

In this position, Fleming will work closely with Nocturne organizers and the Halifax Regional Municipality in preparation for our art-at-night event (October 19, 2019), part of our three-day, free contemporary art festival (October 17-19, 2019). Fleming has put forth the theme: SCAFFOLD for artists to respond and submit their projects for juried review. Fleming will also select five to seven Anchor Artists to develop site-specific artistic interventions responding to this theme.

Nocturne's 2019 theme SCAFFOLD asks artists to respond to their changing city in absurd and critical ways and explore how temporary structures can be used to make a larger commentary on the social, physical and political structures that shape our lives.

Our call for projects is NOW OPEN and artists can explore our brand new submission form as they begin to plan their installations in anticipation for our June 9th, 2019 deadline.

Tori Fleming is a media artist, programmer and curator based in K'jipuktuk/Halifax, NS. Fleming’s curatorial work focuses on media arts, often centring on the space between media art and filmmaking. Fleming is currently the Director of Programming at the Centre for Art Tapes, a Media Arts based artist-run centre in North End Halifax.
