Announcing our 2020 Curator Lindsay Dobbin
Nocturne: Art at Night festival will return this fall from October 15-17 and we are delighted to introduce our 2020 Curator who will select and program a series of 5-7 Anchor projects for this year's free contemporary art festival.
Artist Lindsay Dobbin will curate Nocturne's 13th annual festival this October!
In this position, Dobbin will work closely with Nocturne organizers and the Halifax Regional Municipality in preparation for our main event on Saturday, October 17 as part of the three-day art festival.
Dobbin will put forth a theme for all Nocturne artists and projects to respond to - stay tuned, the theme will be announced later this month along with our Call for Artists.
Dobbin's relational and place-responsive practice includes music, sound art, performance, sculpture, installation, social practices, and writing and is invested in Indigenous epistemologies and cultural practices, such as drumming. Through placing listening, collaboration, and improvisation at the centre of the creative process, Dobbin's practice explores the connection between the environment and the body, and engages in a sensorial intimacy with the living land and water.

2020 Partnership Announcement
Nocturne is also excited to announce that this year, the festival has partnered with the Centre for Art Tapes (CFAT) and Halifax Regional Municipality to present Dobbin's curated Anchor projects. CFAT is a not for profit artist-run, charitable, organization that facilitates and supports artists at all levels working with electronic media including video, audio, and new media. We are over-the-moon to formalize our longstanding collaborative partnership with CFAT and to showcase their services to our artists and to the community.

Lindsay Dobbin is a Kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) - Acadian - Irish artist, musician, curator and educator who lives and works in Kjipuktuk in Mi'kma'ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of Lnu’k (Mi’kmaq). Born in and belonging to the Kennebecasis River Valley, the traditional territory of the Wəlastəkwiyik, Mi’kmaq and Passamaquoddy, Dobbin has lived throughout Wabanaki as well as the Yukon in Kwanlin Dün territory.
As a passionate educator, Dobbin employs traditional and contemporary land-based practices, creativity, play, and improvisation as tools for self-awareness, collaboration, experiential learning, and community building — revealing that people and the environment are related in dynamic ways. Dobbin is also an active artistic collaborator, and has worked on projects with musicians, sound artists, dancers, visual artists, and filmmakers.
