Nocturne is run primarily by volunteers and would not be possible without your dedication. One of the best ways to support the festival is to come out and lend a hand! Depending on your interest, you'll get opportunities to interact with artists, board members, staff, and the general public. If you're interested in volunteering, please fill out our online registration today!

We have quite a few projects that we need volunteers for. We will try our best to pair you with projects and tasks that you are most excited about. However, we will ask you to choose your second and third choice in case that spot has been filled.

FESTIVAL ASSISTANT: You are highly motivated and love chatting with people. In this role you would find joy in handing out our festival guide to the public, showing people where to go to find the next project and answering basic questions about Nocturne. We would give you all the tools to do this successfully, you don't need to already know everything about the festival to rock this position.

HUB SUPPORT PAL: You are a very organized person who moves quickly and is good at troubleshooting and thinking on the spot. In this role you will help other volunteers sign in and tell them where to go. You will also help organizers fill holes with volunteers as needed. You will also be a point of contact for the public and may need to answer a few questions. Again, we will give you all the details before hand.

ARTIST SUPPORT: You are a creative individual with experience in the arts. You love working closely with people to achieve their dreams. You are ready and willing to help wherever needed. This may mean standing watch over a project while an artist uses the restroom, or it may mean helping to shovel a pile of dirt... this is the kind of position you really need to be easy going for and ready to lend a hand at any moment. We will partner you with an artist, or with a group of artists in the same area.

NOCTURNE BUS GUIDE: You are a welcoming person who is good at talking and knows Halifax well. We run a free shuttle bus around major points of action in Halifax during Nocturne. We will give you the route and you will help people know when to get off and the schedule. We will give you as much information as possible before Nocturne but it will also be your responsibility to take a look at the guide and learn the route. There is a microphone on board the bus sooooo feel free to use it!

FERRY-OKE SUPERSTAR: You are a inspired and motivated by folks singing at the top of their lungs on the open harbour! You are quick to lend a hand (perhaps playing tambourine) and good at giving instructions. People need to board and disembark the ferry throughout the night and you will help the Ferry-oke team and making that an efficient and seamless process. A love for music is highly recommended.
