Festival Program

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAMMING AT NOCTURNE

The Nocturne festival is comprised of a multi-platform programming model. We work with partners to achieve a cohesive event with various priorities. Below is an outline of the programming matrix that Nocturne currently employes.

ANCHOR PROJECTS

Anchor projects are selected by our curator and funded through our partnership with Halifax Regional Municipality. They anchor the theme of the festival and are typically larger in scale and located in each of the festival zones.

BEACON PROJECTS

Beacon projects are artist-led works submitted to our annual call for projects and selected through a selection committee/jury process. The projects are funded by Nocturne and artists receive a CARFAC artist fee and costs to cover expenses associated with the project. They are usually site specific and located in public (or publicly accessible spaces) throughout the festival zones.

SPOTLIGHT PROJECTS

Spotlight projects are non-juried projects and selected by Nocturne organizers to enhance the experience of the festival and are funded through private sponsorship.

COMMUNITY GROUPS + GALLERIES

Community groups + Gallery projects are self-funded projects submitted to be part of the Nocturne program at cultural institutions, businesses, and organizations in our community. These projects are still considered through an application process.

LEAD-UP EVENTS

We have multiple lead-up events that take place connected to the festival. These take the form of artist talks, parties, workshops and more.
