Ombudsperson

Ombudsperson

At Nocturne, we believe in creating a supportive and inclusive arts community. We are committed to maintaining a fair and respectful environment.

What is the Nocturne Ombudsperson?

The Nocturne Ombudsperson is an independent, impartial, and confidential resource available to artists, contractors, volunteers, staff, and all members of the Nocturne community.

Confidentiality

The Nocturne Ombudsperson is not part of our staff or board of directors. They are an independent contractor who will engage the relevant parties at Nocturne as needed. They will not disclose the information that you share or who you are without your explicit permission.

What does the Nocturne Ombudsperson do?

The Nocturne Ombudsperson is available to try to help resolve complaints about behavior that are not consistent with our Festival Policies.

As a neutral third-party, the Nocturne Ombudsperson can:

  1. Listen: They can provide a listening ear for you to share your concerns openly.

  2. Help: They can help you understand the festival and organizations policies and offer guidance about a path forward.

  3. Moderate: If there is a conflict, they can facilitate and moderate informal discussions between relevant parties.

  4. Discuss: If escalation is necessary, they will present issues to the board of directors for Nocturne to address.

What does the Nocturne Ombudsperson NOT do?

We want to provide a resource for the community to reach out to when needed, but there are certain things that Nocturne and the Nocturne Ombudsperson cannot help with. For example, matters that require the police. As a non-profit organization that is mostly volunteer run, we cannot provide support for serious conflicts that require investigations or police intervention.

For general festival feedback or questions, please contact [email protected] or fill out the post-festival survey when it is available.

Morgan Bath Headshot
Morgan Bath (she/they)

Morgan Bath (she/they) has always been passionate about creating environments where people feel supported and heard. In their new role as Ombudsperson for Nocturne, Morgan is excited to offer artists, contractors, and volunteers a safe, anonymous space to voice concerns. Their focus is on ensuring everyone can share feedback without fear of repercussion, and they will bring any concerns to the board with the community’s well-being in mind.

With years of experience in the visual arts and nonprofit sectors, Morgan has a unique blend of creativity, strategic thinking, and project management skills that inform their approach to problem-solving. As a previous board member, they had spent the last two years developing the Ombudsperson role, knowing that as Nocturne grows, it's important to provide safe ways for the community to speak up and feel heard.

Currently pursuing a Master of Design in Strategic Foresight and Innovation at OCAD University in Toronto, Morgan is committed to reimagining how organizations can better support their people. They’re driven by the belief that equity and community care should be at the center of everything they do—both at Nocturne and beyond.
