Ehpicik
Through sculpture and sound, experience the lasting, multi-generational trauma caused by Canada’s Residential School System and their mandate to “kill the Indian in the child”.
Over 130 residential schools were located across the country; the last one was closed in 1996.

‘Ehpicik’ aims to share a glimpse of the negative effects on the children and their families caused by Canada’s government-funded Residential School System. This project, created specifically for Nocturne’s theme of Nomadic Reciprocity, hopes to spur reflection within oneself. Ehpicik is in surrendering pose, at rock bottom, letting go and trusting in a higher power. Reclaiming her stolen teachings, her language & her body. The sound of angst emanates from her heart, because all healing must begin within. Materials within her dress include natural & dyed deer hide, sinew & feathers. The structure has been achieved with a mix of paper, plaster & deer antler.
