Can you have one without the other? To be moving towards transitioning or beginning you must be open to change. In this project will create, cross and suspend thresholds of time and space. Visuals, overlapped with words, space curated with art and light layered together in one space - in real time. Exploring movement, repetition and space. This project is a curated experience based on and building on experimentation and exploration, as well as lessons and learnings. Culturally, Black artists have been denied the opportunity to exist, play and create. Yet we have existed, played, created, and been brilliant anyways.
For me, it’s important that as a Black and African Nova Scotian artist to play with the abstract. Pushing what is expected of us aside and leaning into opportunities to explore dialogues that exist in alternate universes, experiences, lifetimes, dreams. Suspension between what was and what is. Suspension between your experience and my intention, between how others will be in this moment. What happens right before the moment something changes you? Or maybe you won’t be changed at all - just hanging in a moment.
