A Little World

Using this year's theme of Microcosm, youth artists of the MacPhee Centre have used a variety of materials and mediums to create artworks that share their personal experiences, stories, perspectives, fears and dreams as teenagers living in our current world and climate. These glimpses into the lives of MacPhee youth are presented as an installation contained inside the building at 50 Queen and viewed through the windows. In this way the audience has an opportunity to 'see through the looking glass' and into the microcosm of the MacPhee Centre; a place where these young artists come to connect and collaborate through art-making, learn from and challenge each other, grow together, strengthen their skills and create complex moments and narratives. The work depends on the audience to untangle or assemble the relationality of perspectives in these diorama-like installations, and in this way make sense of their own relationship to the stories being told by youth today. This collective piece invites the viewer is invited to transport themselves into the internal world of these youth artists, and question the infinite ways that youth today are creating themselves and creating community as they carve out space for themselves in this fluctuating world.
