Take a brave step with us. Take part in an immersive experience moving through present and future realities of climate change into opportunities to take hands-on action and feel the power of community. Led by a collaboration between the Municipality’s Environment & Climate Change team and the Ecology Action Centre. Artwork on the Project Image is designed by Donica Larade.
Our climate is changing – and the impacts are hitting closer to home. We are witnessing hotter summers, milder winters, and more frequent, devastating flash floods and wildfires. Increasingly, climate change is affecting human health, safety, affordability, and the living world around us. Grappling with the realities of a changing climate is challenging. At the same time, art and community connection have the power to sustain us through life’s most difficult challenges. Tonight we ask you to take a brave first step with us. Take a moment to pause with intention. Immerse yourself in the images, sounds, and feelings of climate change and then, step forward with courage and be open to seeing glimmers of community care and action. Expect to walk through an immersive climate experience into a community climate fair filled with action-oriented stations (for example, seed saving, emergency preparedness kit making). Using heart, head, and hands, you’ll embody the transformative power of collective action and experience what it feels like to have each other’s backs. Everyone who attends the installation will also receive a locally designed Climate Commitment Badge for taking climate action.
