Between Lands is a six-hour immersive night of film, music, spoken word, and dance at Pier 21, exploring what it means to live between places. Immigrant or not, we all know the feeling of being in one place while longing for another. The night ends with a homecoming on the dance floor: AFRO HOUSE PROPAGANDA VOL 9: THE SERMON. Come dance the question with us. October 17, 6 pm to midnight.
Between Lands is a six-hour, fully immersive art experience that asks a question many of us carry quietly every day: what does it feel like to be in two places at once?
Taking place at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, the place where over a million people first arrived in Canada, Between Lands transforms a site of arrival into a living celebration of life lived in between. Between homelands. Between a relationship's beginning and end. Between the job you have and the one you dream of. Between who you were and who you are becoming. Immigrants live this story. So does any human being who has stood in one place while longing for another.
Across the evening, each hour opens a new doorway. A film collage of voices answering what it feels like to be in two places. An hour of spoken word. An hour of live music. An hour of dance. Throughout the night, visual artist Boma paints a single evolving canvas, and a community wall invites everyone present to add their own answer to the question: what does Between Lands mean to you? Between each experience, DJ Ubuntu carries the room with sound, keeping the night in constant motion.
Between Lands is a night you move through, together, with a room full of people who all know the feeling of being between. The evening builds to a homecoming on the dance floor with AFRO HOUSE PROPAGANDA VOL 9: THE SERMON DJ Ubuntu's celebrated monthly dance gathering, bringing its community spirit to Pier 21 for one unforgettable night. Come and live it with us.
