Experience FLOW, an outdoor performance by Mocean Dance created for the Queen’s Marque waterfront. Featuring an ensemble of professional dancers and community participants, the work transforms the courtyard into a vibrant landscape where movement, live music, architecture, and nature intersect. Inspired by the rhythms of Kjipuktuk Harbour, FLOW invites audiences to see the city through a new lens, discovering unexpected connections between body, place, and environment. Created for Nocturne 2026’s Embodied City theme and celebrating Mocean Dance’s 25th anniversary, FLOW is an immersive performance that reimagines how we experience public space together.
FLOW is an outdoor dance performance by Mocean Dance that transforms the Queen’s Marque courtyard into a living performance environment where movement, music, architecture, and landscape exist in continuous dialogue. Created specifically for this waterfront site, the work invites audiences to experience a familiar public space through movement, sound, and shared presence.
Co-Artistic Directors Susanne Chui and Sara Coffin create an original movement score performed by an ensemble of professional dancers alongside invited community participants. Responding directly to the courtyard’s architecture, the choreography explores the relationship between the built environment and the natural elements that surround it. Buildings, stairs, pathways, sculptures, the harbour, wind, light, and sky all become active collaborators in the performance.
Situated beside the waters of Kjipuktuk Harbour, FLOW draws inspiration from the rhythms and fluid systems that connect human bodies with the natural world. Referencing tides, interstitial fluids, and the porous nature of our cells, the work reveals the body as part of an interconnected ecological system where people and place continually influence one another.
Developed through practices of deep listening, heightened awareness, and sensory attention, FLOW invites audiences into an embodied experience that encourages curiosity and connection. As dancers move through the site, viewers are encouraged to notice subtle shifts in perspective and discover new relationships with the space around them.
Created in response to Nocturne’s 2026 theme, Embodied City, FLOW extends dance beyond the studio and theatre into public space, exploring how movement can transform our experience of the urban environment. The performance also celebrates Mocean Dance’s 25th anniversary, honouring a quarter century of artistic collaboration, community building, and creative inquiry. FLOW reflects the company's ongoing commitment to creating meaningful connections between movement, place, and the people who share them.
Performances are approximately 15-20 minutes long beginning at 6:00, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 and 11:00PM
