Join NSCAD Print Club for a night of collaborative printmaking by transferring ink to paper through movement. Dance, walk, and move about papered areas to immortalize a moment in time and leave your mark. NSCAD Print Club will be activating the space with music, print, and revealing an ephemeral installation with your impressions throughout the night.
NSCAD Print Club seeks to utilize a relationship between our bodies and the places they occupy in order to question definitions of print, studied in the context of our relationship to movement, pattern, space, and material. Prints are typically made using a matrix and a printing press that provides pressure for the transfer of ink from matrix to paper. Alternative printmaking methods such as certain monotypes, seek to replace these technologies with more accessible tools. The monotype method we will be using involves gently laying a sheet of paper on an inked surface and transferring the ink by making marks on top to create a one-of-one print. These are accessible and adaptable printmaking methods that NSCAD Print Club seeks to share with our community. Our ambition is to host a performance space where we will have inked boards and paper laid across the ground, tables, and other surfaces; inviting participants to move and dance on them as they wish. These steps and pressures will archive our shared movements, activating the body and ground, positioning both as press and matrix. Over the course of the evening, these prints will be revealed and accumulate on the walls of the space as an installation. In a world so fast-paced, we ask visitors to slow down with patient print methods, and to harbour this collective space to create an installation only possible through their radical presence and engagement with the material and one another. How we experience a room, what area we cover when we dance together, what impressions different bodies make or patterns of movement we bring are all subjects to observe with every monotype created throughout the evening.
Project open from 6:00pm - Midnight, DJ set beginning at 9:00pm.
