Making room: Sea turtle embodiment
People often “love” the idea of conservation in the abstract. We like the idea of species continuity—of an abundance of bees and a diversity of plants—of forests and oceans teeming with wildlife. But when it comes to actually engaging with what conservation requires—sometimes sacrifices that might impact our own life or our economy—we are less interested in conservation. This exhibit uses audience movement around intricate scale models of endangered leatherback and loggerhead sea turtles to encourage visitors to consider how they interact with the embodied species and what that might mean for how we approach conservation.
