What if we treated plastic packaging as a resource instead of trash? Discover the possibilities as you delight in our repurposed plastics puppets. Stop by our interactive station to learn about the history, types, and potential reuse of everyday plastics. Make your own festival mementos while supplies last!
A crow-like creature looms out of the dark. A fluttering being reminiscent of water and rock washes along the shore. Strange denizens of the embodied city float around the wharf, spawned from our ever-increasing plastic waste. Using yogurt containers, laundry jugs, and other waste domestic plastic as raw materials for the creation of puppets, we explore the ways that plastics permeate our lives and our collective future. Despite Extended Producer Responsibility legislation, circular economy initiatives, and long-standing commitments to recycling, we are drowning in plastic waste. This project asks how can we as individual consumers can better honour materials extracted from the earth for our convenience. Our large-scale puppets demonstrate the creative and practical potential of waste, domestic plastic. Come see us near the Wave on the Halifax Waterfront, and learn how to safely re-purpose your own plastics using readily accessible tools and techniques.
Capacity for the interactive station is 8 people at a time.
