The Embellishers turn your everyday clothing into custom works of art on the spot with flash-style embroidery, and a needle-sharp twist of tattoo parlour attitude. They create a live, on-the-spot embroidery experience that transforms personal textiles into one-of-a-kind wearable artworks through playful, hands-on exchange and creative collaboration.
The Embellishers is a live, interactive textile installation that invites festival-goers to take part in a playful and personalized creative exchange. Inspired by the aesthetics and operations of a tattoo parlour, a tailor’s shop, and a neighbourhood deli, The Embellishers creates a vibrant Drop-Off and Pick-Up station where garments and textiles are hand-embroidered on the spot by our team of five textile artists.
Visitors are invited to bring an item of clothing or fabric; jeans, jackets, tote bags, or other wearable items and choose from a curated “Flash Sheet” of in-house developed designs. Once selected, the items are tagged and left with the team, who will embellish the piece with the chosen design using hand-embroidery techniques. The item is then picked up later and transformed into a one-of-a-kind wearable artwork.
Inspired by the theme of Embodied City, the designs draw connections between the human figure and the urban landscape, weaving together bodily forms with familiar city elements, traffic lights, lamp posts, bus stops, and other everyday structures. These compositions reimagine the city as a living, evolving organism, where growth, resilience, and transformation emerge through the interplay of human presence and the built environment, reflecting both personal identity and shared urban experience.
For those who may not have an item to embellish, a rack of thrifted garments and items will be available for the event goers to select from and have personalized.
By blending art-making, fashion, and community connections, The Embellishers becomes more than just a service; it’s an experience! It offers creative customization, a celebration of textiles, and a tribute to the small, beautiful ways we can carry creativity with us every day.
