Join Halifax Dance at Nocturne 2026 for The Space Between Us, a site-specific performance inspired by this year's theme, Embodied City. Performed by dancers from our Intensive Training and Adult Programs, this unique work explores the connections between our bodies, our community, and the spaces we share. Experience dance through the windows of the Maritime Centre and discover how movement can transform the everyday city into a place of creativity, connection, and belonging
What connects us to one another and to the places we move through every day? The Space Between Us invites audiences to experience the city through movement, exploring the relationships between our bodies, our surroundings, and each other. Inspired by Nocturne's 2026 theme, Embodied City, Halifax Dance transforms the windows of the Maritime Centre into a living stage where dance becomes part of the urban landscape.
Performed by dancers from Halifax Dance's Intensive Training Program and Adult Program, the work brings together a diverse community of movers of different ages, experiences, abilities, and dance styles. As audiences watch from the sidewalk, reflections, architecture, passersby, and choreography merge, dissolving the boundary between performer and observer.
In a city that is constantly moving, The Space Between Us offers an opportunity to slow down and notice the connections that exist all around us. Through shared movement and the simple act of gathering, the performance celebrates the spaces where creativity, belonging, and community take shape. Reminding us that the city is not only built by its streets and buildings, but by the people who bring it to life.
