Creating A Community Art Journal
Community members are invited to create content for an art journal which will be collaboratively printed and bound into a book during the course of the event.
We would like to create a book, both content and form, with members of the community. Visitors will be invited to help create the content for the book, asking them to print, draw, or stamp their ideas, feelings, or opinions about community. Various printmaking methods will be available for visitors to use (such as stamping, pochoir, rubbings, and typewriter) to create their page. As each page is completed, we'll bind it into the book. The binding will be sewn using a traditional bookbinder's sewing frame. As such, the content and the binding will be created simultaneously during the evening and at the end of the evening we will have one (hopefully) large art journal with contributions from everyone who came. Our group would then like to be able to include the finished book as part of a future exhibit of handmade books. We also will have bookmarks to print which visitors can take home.
