Nocturne has broad relationships with various members of the community–artists, community partners, and sponsors–who come from a broad spectrum of sectors and perspectives, but the one thing that they have in common is their support for the arts and the Nocturne Festival to help sustain community, support artists, and create a vibrant HRM. And while largely, our shared values and the ethos of the festival are aligned, we recognize that sometimes there can be questions about if some of these relationships are in the best interest of the festival and the community.
When these questions arise, we take them seriously and thoughtfully, and we wanted to share information about the important role that sponsorships play in making Nocturne happen each year.
Sponsorship provides dedicated funding that helps to pay artists for their cultural labour, and that staff receive livable wages. It allows for us to showcase local artists and bring to the HRM artists that add to the vibrancy of the city. It supports all of the logistics, planning, and staff that work hard to bring the festival to fruition each year. And it ensures that Nocturne remains free and accessible to all.
In 2023, Nocturne will be undertaking a review and rebuilding of our sponsorship framework, to ensure alignment between our values and our partners. We welcome open and meaningful conversations about Nocturne. If you have questions or feedback, please contact Melany at [email protected]. We will be happy to discuss this with you.
Sincerely,
The Nocturne Board and Staff
