Lucas Hernandes Nascimento

Lucas Hernandes Nascimento, AKA Coreto, (he/they) is a creative from Brazil residing in K’jipuktuk, Nova Scotia. A vocalist and voice teacher, he strives to be in the moment and focus on the process of everything. They experiment constantly with poetry, songwriting, drawing and printmaking, often described as a compulsory singer, you will likely hear Lucas before you see them.

Noticing is one of the subjects that are most prominent in Coreto’s interests. Having grown up in a hectic, overpopulated and overwhelmingly capitalist environment, it has always been easier to neglect and overlook in order to keep up with expectations and statistics. Today he puts value into the making instead of the product; the breath before the shout; the community, purpose and thought before the action. Another subject is fear: no one is impervious to it. It is okay to feel it and that brave are those who make choices mindfully while afraid. Maybe because of these, Lucas tries to do things without rushing and thoughtfully, taking the time needed to contemplate and experiment.

Lucas has enjoyed performing with orchestras and in the circus, in operatic stages, sidewalks and park benches. Nowadays they prefer to be in choir or in ensembles rather than alone onstage.
