The Friends of the Public Gardens

Founded in 1984, the Friends of the Public Gardens (TFPG) is a registered charity with the mandate to encourage and support the preservation, enhancement, and celebration of the Halifax Public Gardens for the ongoing enjoyment of everyone in recognition of its uniqueness as a Victorian Garden and National Historic Site - virtually an oasis in the centre of a bustling city.

Our volunteer-run organization works year round to bring a diverse array of free events and educational programs in the Halifax Public Gardens, such as music and dance performances and free tours. Most recently, we just wrapped up our summer cultural music series, which included performances from diverse community music and dance groups. For the next couple of weeks, we will also be hosting the last of our weekly morning bird walks, which have been very popular all summer long. We also contribute to the repair of infrastructure and art in the Gardens, such as the goddess statues and the fountains. The Friends of the Public Gardens has a 14 member Volunteer Board. It is maintained by a strong membership, donations and project related grants.
