Join us at the Museum for four insightful projects that engage all the senses - “Burnwater: Arrival”, “The Reflection Room”, “Wind Stories” and a Nocturne Beacon Project: an outdoor projection mapping piece featuring the co-presentation of video works by Millbrook’s Dr. Alan Syliboy and Halifax’s Lukas Pearse.

“Burnwater: Arrival” by Mocean Dance and Hear Here Productions is an interactive dance-music performance and installation that explores the connections between place, memory, and the natural world. Immersed in a contemplative space evocative of the outdoors without boundaries between the audience and performers, participants are free to explore their surroundings, interact with structures, and co-create the space around them.

“The Reflection Room” is an interactive creative art project by Marla Benton that will run parallel to "Burnwater: Arrival." There will be hands-on interactive art activities: printmaking through linocuts, stamps, and rubbings which will offer participants a chance to create and take-home their art. Participants will also contribute to creating a larger piece of communal art that will share memories of their experiences.

“Wind Stories” by Justin Buckley and Eskasoni Cultural Journeys is a collaboration in which Mi'kmaq storytellers and a sound artist meet to share their interpretations of the wind.
Buckley's piece, entitled 'Wind', is a software-powered sound installation which uses Environment Canada weather data to generate music based on the current wind speed and direction of the area. When the winds outside are low, the resulting music is calm and gentle. When the winds are stormy, then the resulting music is louder, dissonant, and unsettling.
Throughout the evening of the Nocturne festival, two heritage interpreters from Eskasoni Cultural Journeys will provide storytelling. The stories relate to the Mi'kmaq legends of the wind. Interpreters will dress in full regalia and will also translate the legends into their native tongue to add the spirit voice to the music coming from Buckley's sound art piece.
