This project aims to explore and highlight the importance of women who laid the path for us to walk on. African Nova Scotians have settled here not by choice, and on this land that is unceeded and unsurrendered Mi'Kmaq territory. But where are their roots if not here? This project explores African Nova Scotian connection to this land (past, present, and future) and how in the future we may create partnership between the Mi’kmaq and African Nova Scotian communities and move forward in solidarity to dismantle systems of oppression that do a disservice to us all. The auditory component of this project will layer text and drumming. The aim is to highlight & support the bad ass humans who have left space for us to continue their work and explore their connection to this land.
