Picnic Table Prints

Public spaces and picnic tables are gathering places to connect, share and exchange ideas with others. Picnic Table Prints is an outdoor, collaborative printmaking project that explores place and builds connections between newcomers and other community members. Participants have worked together to create large-scale relief woodcuts based upon their own unique experiences at Glen Garden, a community garden coordinated by ISANS in Clayton Park.

Lead by artist and educator, Charley Young, three workshops took place that introduced the techniques of relief printmaking and engage with site-specific methods of art making. As part of Nocturne, we present the resulting work of this amazing project.

Picnic Table Prints is presented as part of Welcome to the Place, a year-long national project coordinated by Mabelle Arts involving high impact community-serving partners in Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Winnipeg and Vancouver. Welcome to the Place provides a shared exploration and celebration of collaborative arts-based programs and events that make parks places of inclusion and belonging.
