The dancers of the Young Company (YOCO) spend over 30 hours a week training in the studios of Halifax Dance. They are gifted ballet dancers, featured each year in The Nutcracker with Symphony Nova Scotia. But what happens when they bend that technique and temporarily allow it to move freely in a different genre? In this performance installation, YOCO will demonstrate their craft by way of a traditional ballet barre class (a nostalgic memory of years passed for many Haligonians). However, this ballet barre class will morph into a hybrid of modern dance and ballet dance, combining the old and the new in a contemporary piece of choreography for a brief, fleeting moment, on the steps of the Maritime Centre.
