Council of Absurd Urbanization / Conseil d’Absurdité Urbaine

From a cemetery in the heart of Downtown, to the ‘Sea Bridge’’ on the Waterfront, to the fluorescent lights of the new World Trade Convention Center; the face of Halifax has had interesting changes during the past years. What will come next? Underwater tunnels in the harbour, a nightclub in the middle of a roundabout? Halfway between absurd and realistic, the Théâtre DesAssimilés is looking at ways to push Halifax to its urbanistic limits: curious to see what is possible and what will crumble in front of our very own eyes. During the evening, the audience can discover a 3D model of Halifax made of LEGO. Once inside, the audience is invited to sit down at designated counters and let the madness begin as they become members of the new Municipal Urban City Planning Council. Here, they can listen and evaluate absurd propositions from members of the community. When the presenters are done speaking, the Council of Urbanization members vote… while only having the option to vote ‘YES’. The propositions are then be sent to our French-speaking city planner who has to do his best to describe the plans and modifications to our English-speaking architect. The architect then makes the necessary changes to the LEGO model throughout the entire evening. Weird, quirky or insane, doesn’t matter… APPROVED!!

D'un cimetière dans le milieu du downtown Halifax, au "Sea Bridge" du quai d'Halifax, jusqu'aux lumières fluorescentes du nouveau World Trade Convention Centre, des changements intéressants ont changé la face d’Halifax au cours des dernières années. Qu'est-ce qui viendra prochainement? Des tunnels sous le bassin, une discothèque au centre d'un rond-point? À moitié absurde, à moitié honnête, le Théâtre DesAssimilés (TDA) cherche à pousser la ville d'Halifax dans ses limites urbanistiques - curieux de voir ce qui est possible et ce qui tombera en ruines sous nos yeux. Pendant Nocturne : Art at night, les membres du public découvriront un modèle en 3D de la ville d'Halifax réalisé en LEGO. Une fois entrés, ils pourront s'asseoir aux comptoirs désignés et deviendront membres du nouveau Conseil d’Absurdité Urbaine (CAU). Ici, ils écouteront et évalueront les propositions absurdes des chers citoyens (joués par des comédiens). Une fois le débat terminé, les membres du Conseil d’Absurdité Urbaine auront le droit de vote, sauf qu'ils auront seulement l'option de voter oui. Les idées approuvées se feront envoyer à notre urbaniste francophone qui fera de son mieux pour décrire les modifications à notre architecte anglophone. Celui-ci construira les modifications approuvées dans le modèle en LEGO de la ville au cours de la soirée. Bizarre, excentrique, insensé, pas grave…C’est APPROUVÉ!!
