Keeping OCTopied: Activities of Octopuses on Land
Textile artist Rita Van Tassel transforms the studio room of Trainyard General Store into a whimsical installation of giant stitched octopuses engaging in common human activities (crafting, playing chess, exercising, etc.). There is an interactive element as viewers are invited to sit with and interact with the pieces for photos!
Atlantic Canadians have always had a natural relationship with the ocean and it’s inhabitants, but as water levels rise we’re forced to rethink where we live and how to do so sustainably. After decades of polluting the oceans and encroaching on their environment, what might it look like if the animals began integrating themselves into OUR daily spaces?
