People have an abundant capacity for love and that love extends to place. People work tirelessly to break landscapes into sheltered dwellings for their hearts. We leave our mark by forming, dividing, and extracting the land. Even the best intentions are at conflict with the limits of place. So, what happens when the place you love does not love you back? Maybe you call it often and leave a bunch of messages on its answering machine. Unanswered is a hand-drawn, animated micro-short that communicates a response to unrequited love using prose, abstract frames choreographed to found sounds, and a score by D. Hinson. Inspired by artist Alison Uhma's experience living in post industrial Cape Breton Island, Unanswered is an open-ended conversation about a one-sided love.
