In line with the Nocturne theme of Legacies this year, Dartmouth presents Kaleidoscope. A play on both our light-based exhibits and the “cultural mosaic” of Canada, the kaleidoscope represents the diversity of Dartmouth’s history and how it contributes to the continuous evolution of our beautiful community.

A kaleidoscope requires many different pieces to produce its intricate designs, and it also possesses the potential for infinite change, infinite beauty. A beauty that is brought to life by manipulation of light.

We hope the light of our Nocturne exhibits will bring to life the beauty that exists in downtown Dartmouth all year round and its infinite possibilities. Find fire dancers, light box projections, and more.

Jane MacDougald of the Dart Gallery is working with Toronto/Montreal based artist Arnie Guha to curate several lightboxes that will be projected onto windows in downtown Dartmouth. Additionally, there will be a special Nocturne projection show on the outside of the Old City Hall building. These will be projected each night of Nocturne.

There are a number of art installations in downtown Dartmouth that play into our theme as well (The Neon Mural, The Wave Mural, The Lights Canopy). To encourage folks to talk a stroll down Portland Street and see the exhibits, we will have 2 fire performers on Saturday the 15th. There will be a few performances throughout the evening for people to enjoy the Neon Mural in a new way.
