Uramado AR

Uramado AR was born in Villa Kujoyama the Tokyo arts centre. The word means "window" and "the back of a piece of paper" in Japanese. This is a poetic way to say virtual reality.

Uramado AR will be present throughout the city with a display of Tanukis (forest spirits) that will create a pathway and guide the visitor to the other Nocturne exhibit locations. A group of Tanukis will be present at the end point of the route. Tanukis can have different sizes: from 30 cm to 4m and may take different formats: photos, stickers, posters etc. The final destination will also be the place of gathering and general explanation of this project and the Francofest.

Thanks to a free cell phone app, the visitor will be able enjoy the exhibition. A photo via the app is enough for the Tanukis to come to life and ask a question. 7 languages are available (French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, South Korean) which makes this exhibition even more accessible. This interactive exhibition also allows visitors to discover their hidden totem animals. At the end of this magical experience, it’s possible to collect a mask in the shape of a Tanukis. With the Uramado AR exhibition, the whole city of Halifax will be transformed into a large forest where spirits, animals and visitors will interact.

A prototype was shown at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in Paris, France. A second more evolved version was presented at Digital Choc (and Media Ambition Tokyo) in Tokyo and the Tilt Festival in New York City.

Uramado AR has been shown in various museums and institutions around the world as well as in France since 2019. It is an evolving universe in which the characters metamorphose over the years. It brings to life a cross cultural legacy of the sacred in nature that we are excited to share in K'jipuktuk.

L’Alliance Française Halifax (AFH) et le Francofest s’associent pour Nocturne. Du jeudi 13 au samedi 15 octobre 2022, l’exposition Uramado AR sera installée au rez-de-chaussée de la bibliothèque centrale d’Halifax, au 5440 Spring Garden Rd.

L’origine de l’univers d’Uramado

Pour réaliser l’univers Uramado, l’artiste franco-japonaise, Julie Stephen Chheng s’est inspirée des yōkai et kamis de la culture japonaise, des rituels chamaniques d’Amérique latine, des signes du zodiaque, l’animisme, le shintoïsme, les esprits de la nature en Occident et de certains tests de personnalité.

L’exposition Uramado AR, le réveil des Tanukis

Uramado AR est un parcours en réalité augmentée qui raconte l’histoire des Tanukis, les esprits de la forêt qui se réveillent en ville. Les spectateurs sont invités à télécharger l'application gratuite Uramado AR, le réveil des Tanukis et à partir à leur recherche dans la bibliothèque centrale d’Halifax. Une fois trouvés, les esprits s’animent, s’étonnent et questionnent le public de façon ludique et poétique en créant une narration où le réel se mêle à l’imaginaire et se décline à l’infini. La découverte de l’univers Uramado est accessible entre le 13 et le 15 octobre 2022 pendant les heures d’ouverture de la bibliothèque. L’application est disponible sur iOS et Android et en sept langues (français, anglais, portugais, espagnol, japonais, coréen et mandarin).

Le Francofest

Depuis 2011, le Francofest souligne la diversité francophone à Halifax-Dartmouth et créé un rendez vous annuel pour les membres de la communauté. Le Francofest est devenu au cours des années la référence en terme de partage de culture et de découverte d’artistes francophones. L’édition 2022 aura lieu du 20 au 30 octobre.
