Mi'kmaw Quill Artist from Abegweit First Nation, located in Epekwitk (PEI), Melissa Peter Paul ignites/mobilizes Mi’kmaw worldview by overlaying urban spaces such as the courtyard of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia with Mi’kmaw quillwork designs. She does so by making large scale chalk drawings that remind us whose land we are on. This installation reminds us that the lands of Kjipuktuk (Halifax) and throughout Mi’kma’ki are sovereign, unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Mi’kmaw nation and invites us to celebrate Mi’kmaw cultural knowledge as expressed in vibrant colours, dynamic patterns, and bold design
