In Call for Scores!, the Creative Music Workshop is putting a call out to members of the public to join us on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 6:00 - 9:00 pm at the St. George’s Round Church to create graphic scores for our musicians, dancers, and visual artists to perform.
In Call for Scores!, the Creative Music Workshop (CMW) is putting a call out to members of the public to join us on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the St. George’s Round Church to create graphic scores for our musicians, dancers, and visual artists to perform. No previous composition experience necessary!
Members of our CMW community will be onsite with art supplies to guide folks through the creation of their own graphic score. A graphic score in a musical composition that uses lines, shapes, colours, and imagination to convey musical ideas rather than traditional music notation. The result is a piece of art that is open to interpretation by musicians, dancers, and even other visual artists… and is never performed the same way twice!
Once created, the scores will be submitted to the ensemble of musicians, dancers, and artists that are at the Round Church. When it is your compositions turn to be performed, the composition will be projected onto a large screen so that everyone can see your unique score. Then, the ensemble will take ~5 minutes to play your piece. After the performance, you are the welcome to take home with you so you can perform it again.
