Echoes Calling Back

Echoes Calling Back by multidisciplinary Indigenous artist, Jordan Bennett (Mi’kmaw, Ktaqmkuk), is a public art installation and activation that engages with ideas of history, geography, space and connectivity. First showcased at the Luminato Festival in Toronto in June of 2023, Bennett’s giant inflatable antler utilizes the artist’s signature bright colours and bold design elements taken from Mi’kmaq visual culture, such as porcupIne and quill work.

Echoes Calling Back expands Indigenous stories and adds to Indigenous traditions by continuing to explore the connection between land , animal kin and community by activating the AGNS courtyard and inviting viewers to connect with these ideas from various entry points. Animal kin, fauna and petroglyphs from Mi’kmaw territory, inspire viewers to think through their relationship with the land in its past, present and future states. Colour, shape, space and design all invite the viewer to engage with the world around them in different ways and inspire contemplation around place and your space in it.
