As architecture shifts to include more voices as part of the collaborative process, the result can become a homogeneous product that is devoid of character or activity. Architecture's relationship with community and culture is key, and has profound impacts that ripple through our environment.

The artifacts of the built environment should display the interplay between buildings and its community; it is as much about the people carving through, as it is about the permanent structures that frame activity. Walls are not meant to be seen from a distance but felt, scuffed and patched. The building is a reflection of the culture, the community, and the people who leave their mark. They are active participants in the history of the built environment.

As a reflection of architecture's role in society, Leave A Mark critically examines the intangible legacies of human interaction in the built environment. In an effort to encourage active participation in your environment, the project presents opportunities where participants can engage in gestures that contribute to the display. The project will mean something different to each passerby, inviting different ways that marks can be left. The varied experiences in our exhibit are what we want to emphasize as we believe they are a reflection of our daily lives. They are the impact of community as actors on our collective being.
