The Assembly

The Assembly is a theatre-meets-board game experience structured as a Citizens' Assembly. Audiences form a team trying to guide their community to the year 2300, balancing the peoples' needs with the rights of unborn generations. Audiences are asked to participate in 'thinking long' by empathizing with and protecting future generations, a mindset we must urgently cultivate, or we are all doomed to become 'bad ancestors'.

The Assembly was originally commissioned by Theatre Direct to be part of the 2022 Forward March Festival, where young audiences and families could participate in an intergenerational Assembly in Toronto’s Earlscourt Park. A version of The Assembly for adult audiences was created as an interactive exhibit in Eastern Front Theatre’s 2022 Macro Digitals: CONNECTIONS with collaborators Holly Meyer-Dymny, Lou Campbell, Stevey Hunter, Peter Sarty and BAGEL+BALLOON (Kai McGilligan Oliver and Francine Dulong).
